What's in a Name?
Didi Bahini is a Nepali word meaning “sisters”. Literally, “didi” means “elder sister” and “bahini” means “younger sister”. When placed side by side, “didi bahini” means “sisters” in general.
We created this business with the intent to support our beautiful Nepali “sisters” in building their fair trade handmade businesses. Approximately 80% of our artisans are women. Statistics prove, that by focusing on women’s empowerment, entire families and communities prosper more quickly and sustainably. Nepal is considered one of the poorest countries in the world. By joining with our sisters in Nepal, we can help them move towards their own self-reliance so that they too may make their mark in contributing to the growth of their communities.
Our growing awareness has strengthened our desire to build this SISTERHOOD. We believe that with the proper intent and care for each other, our sisterhood will help all those involved to mutually prosper with abundance.
