Woven Scarves
Dhaka weaving is a technique originating in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has made its way to Nepal and has been an important hand-loomed textile in the country. This traditional weaving is done on wooden looms using time-honoured techniques by skilled female artisans in Kathmandu. Weavers produce only a half-meter of woven cloth per day owing to the laborious technique and intricate design. The workmanship is exquisite!
These scarves were made by Dhaka Weaves, a social enterprise that provided hope and training in the weaving skill to poor rural women needing an income. This organization revolutionized the traditional craft of Dhaka weaving, creating modern designs of high quality for the international market. Sadly, Dhaka Weaves has been forced to close, so these pieces are the last we will have to offer.
The scarves can be worn as the focal point of an outfit, as a shawl over a coat or a wrap when there is an evening chill in the air. They can also make a stunning table runner or add a unique decorative touch when made into accent pillows or wall hangings.
Made of 100% mercerized cotton, these pieces should be treated with care -- hand wash and line dry. Iron with care. The material will soften with use.
